BBYO Overview

BBYO is the leading worldwide pluralistic Jewish teen movement aspiring to involve more Jewish teens in more meaningful Jewish experiences.

For more than 80 years chapters of AZA, the boys division, and BBG, B'nai B'rith Girls, in communities around the world have been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences, shaping the lives of 250,000 alumni who are among the most prominent figures in business, politics, academia, the arts and Jewish communal life.

Now, more than ever, BBYO offers unique opportunities for teens to connect with one another, serve their communities, navigate the college admissions process and travel the world, providing each participant with a network of lifelong friends, a perspective which adds value and meaning to life and a shared commitment to strengthening the Jewish future.

The Columbia chapters are part of Dixie Council which consists of AZA and BBG chapters in Augusta, Ga; Charleston, S. C.; Columbia, S. C.; and Savannah, Ga. There are on-going efforts to establish BBYO chapters in other cities in South Carolina.  To establish a chapter in your area contact the Dixie Council director, Rona Goldstein at rgoldstein@BBYO.org

Dixie Council is part of Southern Region BBYO which includes chapters in the greater Atlanta area.

BBYO is a youth-led, adult supervised program bringing Jewish teens together through conventions, dances and other programs throughout the year.

AZA programs in five folds or areas of programming: Athletic, Community Service / Social Action; Education; Judaic and Social.

BBG programs in six folds including: Recreation; Sisterhood; Creativity; Citizenship; Jewish Heritage and Community Service.

Both chapters meet at the Katie and Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center (803) 787-2023.  The address is 306 Flora Drive, P.O. Box 23257, Columbia, S. C. 29224.
